What we did

Flutes
  • Establishing good embouchure, air stream to produce an acceptable tone quality
  • Mouthpiece sounds; sustained sound for a whole note/rest rhythm

What to do
  • 10 minutes per day blow long sounds (5 seconds sustained sound) on head joint

Looking Ahead
  • Establish good hand position and posture
  • Play a Bb with acceptable tone quality


Trumpet
  • Establishing good embouchure, air stream to produce an acceptable tone quality on the "buzz"
  • Mouthpiece sounds; sustained sound for a whole note/rest rhythm

What to do
  • 10 minutes per day blow long sounds (5 seconds sustained sound) on mouthpiece
  • Play "siren sounds" on mouthpiece

Looking Ahead
  • Establish good hand position and posture
  • Read and play whole note/rest rhythms on E, D, C
  • Reach proficiency level in performance of line 7 in the book


Percussion
  • Establishing acceptable posture, grip, and stroke
  • Establish a proper bounce stroke with both hands

What to do
  • Work 10 minutes daily to play with the proper posture, grip and stroke
  • Can you play 3 Blind Mice or other familiar song by experimenting?

Looking Forward
  • Reading, counting, and playing quarter note/rest rhythms on D,C,Bb (Lines 1,2,4 in book)
  • Reach proficiency level of performance targets on line 7 of book (Benchmark line)
